We feel so blessed to have Connor in our lives. These past 2 weeks have been amazing, challenging, rewarding, exhausting, and everything in between! It has been so much fun getting to know our little guy during his first 2 weeks of life & we're finally starting to know what he wants when he cries, how he likes to be comforted, how often he likes to eat & sleep and how deeply in love we are with him. He has been such a great baby so far! He is eating & sleeping well and he is usually so content when he is awake. We can't keep our eyes off of him b/c we think he is the cutest thing in the world!
For those of you who don't know the full story of how Connor was brought into this world I will fill you in right now. I woke up on the morning of Wednesday, March 25 to get ready for work when I thought my water had possibly broken. I called my midwife right away & she said that it could be my water, or it could be the fact that my cervix was dialating. She said to wait 2 hours to see if anything changes & to call her back. Well, nothing had changed in the 2 hours & I was still having the symptoms I thought might be related to my water breaking, so she said to meet her at the Family Birth Center as soon as I could. I was hoping that this was the real-deal finally, b/c I had had a couple "false alarms" in the recent days leading up to this. To our surprise I was dialated to 4cm when she checked me at the hospital! My midwife, Lisa, said that I would definitely be staying at the hospital b/c this baby is on his way!
The labor process didn't turn out exactly like I had thought it would. It hurt like I expected it would, but I never thought I'd be in labor for as long as I was. I labored for 14 hours and then ended up with an unplanned c-section. I was dialating and making process throughout the day, but Connor wasn't moving down so a decision had to be made before this went any further. My midwife called the Dr and he said it would be safest for myself & for the baby to go ahead and have a c-section. I wasn't scared at all when I heard that news - I just wanted our baby out as safely as possible. Dr. Anderson & his team did an amazing job with the surgery and Connor arrived into this world as healthy as can be! We did find out after the fact that Connor's umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck 2 times, so that could've played a factor as to why he wasn't able to move down during labor. But our baby is with us now, and we couldn't be any happier!
I must say that this has been the fastest 2 weeks of our lives. Our schedule completely revolves around Connor, particularly his eating schedul.! He is getting to be such a big boy already! We've had a lot of visitors so far, which has been great, along with a couple doctor appointments for Connor & myself, a few trips out of the house. At Connor's 1 week check-up he was already at 9 lbs 6 oz - and the Dr couldn't believe it - he even weighed him a 2nd time just to make sure the scale was accurate! I guess it normally takes 7-14 days for babies to return to their birth weight after leaving the hospital, but he definitely beat that! It's good to know that we have a healthy baby boy.
