On Friday I had my second Dr's appt. I was really anxious to get in there b/c I had the flu the weekend before & was getting myself all worried about the baby. Of course, I had nothing to worry about, considering that many women throw-up & are sick throughout their first trimester with morning sickness and mine was just a 24-hour flu bug...but needless to say, I was anxious to get to the Dr on Friday so I could hear that our baby was doing just fine!
Thankfully, everything was looking good at the appt. Maybe just a little too good, actually. As my midwife had me on the table and feeling around on my stomache, she asked me again how far along I was. I thought this was kinda odd b/c shouldn't she know that information - it's on my medical forms, right??? She also asked me if my dates could be off, to which I said "No," b/c I'm positive on those. I guess what she was getting at was the fact that my uterus seemed bigger, or higher up, than it should be at 14 weeks. Bryce asked why she was asking those questions, and she replied with, "Well, let me go grab the ultrasound machine to make sure there's only one baby in there." Ahhhh!!! Bryce & I both looked at each other and just started laughing. Could that be possible?! Well, it turns out that she could only see one baby in there afterall (unless it's hiding, she said). So yeah, Bryce & I had a mini-heart attack in the Dr's office that day, haha! But the best part about it was the fact that she did an ultrasound (which was totally unexpected), so we got to see our baby together for the first time! It was so amazing to see. The baby is only the size of a lemon right now - about 3.5 inches long - and we could clearly see the head, a hand, and feet! It was so cool to see! We both left the appt that day thinking that that was a pretty cool morning :)
Ever since our first appt when we heard our baby's heartbeat for the first time (180 beats/minute) we've been thinking this baby is a girl forsure. I, of course, went on the internet immediately after that appt and read an Old Wives Tale that said if the heartrate is under 140 beats/minute than the baby is a boy, and if it's over 140 than it's a girl - plus, other people were saying the same thing to us. So, of course we got it in our heads that we're having a girl. (We'll be excited no matter what the sex is!) However, Bryce asked our midwife on Friday if there was any truth to that myth, and she said no. She said every baby's heartrate starts really high and then lowers throughout the pregnancy. That was true in our case, too, b/c on Friday the heartbeat was at 160 beats/minute this time. It was actually nice to hear that there's no truth to that myth, b/c now we'll be truly surprised when we have our 2nd trimester ultrasound in 5 weeks to find out what the sex of Baby Hutchins is!
Bryce told his work the baby news a looong time ago - pretty much right after we told our families the news. Isn't it odd that he couldn't keep his mouth shut?!?! Ha - yeah, right! I, on the other hand, told my work the news today. I was nervous going into today b/c I truly didn't know how my manager would take the news. She's really nice, of course, but besides telling her I was pregnant, I also had to tell her that I won't be able to work full-time once the baby comes and that I only want to work 3 days/week. Thankfully, she took the news really well & is really excited for us! She also said that she is okay with me not working full-time and wants to keep me at the law firm b/c she thinks I'm a good asset to the company and a good worker. So yeah, it went a lot better than I anticipated, which I am very thankful for. I told the rest of the gals at work today as well & got a lot of positive feedback from everyone - so that was really nice. My pregnancy hormones must be out of whack b/c as I was reading some of the ladies' emails congratulating me, I started to get a little choked up, haha!
Well, Methodist Hospital is supposed to call me sometime this week to set up my 2nd trimester ultrasound, so that will be exciting to have an exact date to look forward to. It'll be around the 2nd to last week in October. That's pretty much the biggest appt we'll have during the pregnancy since we'll (hopefully) find out the sex of the baby that day. We'll of course keep you posted!

Two babies would be wonderful - no, really it would. Bob and I are so excited for both of you. What a lucky baby(ies) to have won the lottery with you as parents. We love you both.
